FSTA Success with Outdoor Soccer Programs

In 2017, Frank’s Soccer Training Academy (FSTA) kicked off their first season for their outdoor Elite and FUNdamentals programs. This year will be the Academy’s third season running the outdoor programs, and they are looking to continue expanding and developing the programs for the future.

The Elite program is for children and youth aged 9-18 who are looking to develop their soccer capabilities in a fun, learning oriented environment. The Elite program has had multiple teams compete in the East Region Soccer League (ERSL) through their partnership with the Ottawa Futsal Club (OFC), including a team that reached the Regional level. The main goal for the Elite program was to provide local players with an opportunity to continue playing soccer at a high level as they get older, by developing players to be passionate and love the game. One example of this success, is this year’s FSTA Elite U18 Girls C1 team. Although there have been many players come in and out of this team since they joined FSTA in 2017, the core has returned to compete for a final season at a youth age category. Many have returned after taking a season off, simply because they enjoy playing the game, with their only goal for the season being to have fun. FSTA is ecstatic to have these ladies return and is looking forward to watching them play this summer. FSTA is also looking forward to watching the development of their young teams this season, as they are the future of the Elite program. Our U12 Boys team will be returning to the field, with the core coming back for their third season with the Academy. We are also pleased to welcome two new teams to the Academy, our U10 Boys and Girls. These players will be taking to the field for the first time this season and we are looking forward to seeing them grow throughout the season while working with FSTA’s coaches. There are still a few spots available on these teams. Players can contact admin@frankssoccertraining.com if they are interested in attending an assessment. There is no assessment fee.

The FUNdamentals program was created to provide local players aged 4-12, with an opportunity to develop their soccer skills and knowledge through game-like situations while encouraging learning and fun. This program functions as a clinic, with no fixed team structure. Sessions run once a week for ten weeks in the summer. FSTA believes that by starting to teach basic skills and concepts at a younger age, players will be more likely to have success with the game, and therefore desire to continue playing and improving as they get older. We had many players return last season and the program more than doubled in size. FSTA is hoping to continue expanding this program and developing players while providing them with the opportunity to advance to the Elite program once they are of age. This year the program will be run by Kodi Jones, a long-time coach with the Academy who is going on 10 years of coaching experience. The early-bird registration deadline is April 30th. Players save $10.00 on their registration fees if they register prior to the deadline. All players receive a FUNdamentals jersey at the beginning of the season. In our community, soccer is often a less popular sport for youth as they get older. FSTA wants to change this perspective and encourage players to continue enjoying the sport for many years to come. In order to do this, FSTA recognizes that changes need to occur, particularly with the way that players are being developed. The Elite and FUNdamentals programs are the beginning of these changes, and we hope that more players will join us knowing that the Academy is interested in bettering the local soccer community.
