This past January our Fusion Girls and Galy Fusion teams competed in the 2017 Bob Rathwell Memorial Futsal Tournament held in Ottawa.
The Fusion Girls team competed in the U16 Girls A division, while the Galy Fusion team competed in the U16 Girls B division. Both teams came out strong on Saturday with the Fusion Girls posting two wins in the morning, and the Galy Fusion taking three exciting wins in the early afternoon. After a long break in the day, the Fusion Girls played one final round robin game where they tied Derham1-1. At the end of round robin play, the Galy Fusion received a by to the finals and the Fusion Girls were slotted to play a semi-final game against Ottawa City Soccer Club the following morning.
The Fusion Girls pulled out another win in their semi-final game Sunday morning to move on to the finals where they would face Derham again. In a tough battle for first place, the score was tied after full time. The Fusion Girls would fall to Derham in a shoot out taking second place in their division. The Galy Fusion walked onto the floor with confidence from their round robin games to play a regular OFC season rival, The Hurricanes. The Galy Fusion came out victorious to finish first place in their division.
FSTA Head Coach and Director of Player Development, Frank Onasanya, was "very pleased with the outcome of the tournament. Both teams showed very well and it was a great weekend of excitement, competition, and futsal."
Congratulations to all our players on a great tournament!
